25-year-old Amadeus arrives in bustling Vienna determined to carve his own artistic path beyond his famous celebrity childhood. Recently unemployed and free from his domineering father, Amadeus finds an unlikely ally in a young singer who will become his wife, the fiery but fiercely loyal Constanze Weber. Her cultural connections bring Amadeus into the orbit of the respected and pious court composer, Antonio Salieri. Intrigued, disgusted but not immediately threatened, Salieri brings him into inner circles and the two begin a friendship. When it becomes clear that Amadeus’ music will transcend his behaviour and reputation, it threatens the very bedrock of Salieri’s faith in God. What began as a rivalry turns into an obsession, as Salieri sets out to bring him down, God’s chosen one, once and for all. After a failed attempt on his own life, Salieri is asked to recount the full truth of the story 30 years later by none other than Amadeus’s wife Constanze, as he begs for a place in her husband’s legacy and potentially, salvation.
