Top New Shows to Binge on STACKTV This Long Weekend

Looking for a new show to stay warm with this weekend? Stop flicking through your streaming services only to rewatch the same thing for the 10th time and head over to STACKTV instead. There are several great new series worth checking out, from thrillers and dramas to true crime and comedy. Keep scrolling to learn more about our top recommendations.

The ‘Burbs

You don’t need to be a fan of the 1989 movie The ‘Burbs starring Tom Hanks to appreciate the dark comedy of this eight-episode remake. This gender reversal of the cult classic stars Keke Palmer as a young mother who moves into her husband’s childhood home on a quiet cul-de-sac. The problem? There’s more to this neighbourhood than meets the eye, especially when it comes to the creepy and timeworn manor across the street. Add in the wildest neighbourhood watch imaginable, a few glasses of pinot grigio on the porch and a missing girl, and this is one mystery you don’t want to miss. Jack Whitehall, Jason Kirk, Julia Duffy and Kapil Talwalkar also star.

PONIES

If you were a fan of The Americans and love yourself a good period spy drama, look no further than this new series starring Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke and The White Lotus’ Haley Lu Richardson. The pair star as the wives of spies who suddenly die. When they do, it’s up to these women to take their spouses’ places and save America. As it turns out, they’re the best duo to do it, too, because as women of a certain era, they’re persons of no interest, aka PONIES. This is a fun and action-packed series with tons of great costumes and two magnificent leads, making it a no-brainer to add to your weekend watch list.

Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy

These days, it seems like most dramatized true crime series make you feel sympathy for the killer. That is definitely not the case with Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, which turns the cameras towards those who truly suffered from the Gacy crimes: the victims and their families. Sure, Michael Chernus gives a chilling performance as the man in question. But it’s Gabriel Luna’s turn as the man tracking him down and Michael Angarano, who plays Gacy’s lawyer, that truly shine. If you’ve ever wondered how this man got away with murdering so many people and want to know more about those whose lives he forever changed, this series digs into all of those corners and more.

The Paper

We were skeptical when we found out there was an Office spinoff, but after binging this series ourselves we’re completely on board. This single-camera comedy has ties with the original Steve Carell series, and it stars Oscar Nunez as the same accountant named Oscar from the American show. That’s where the similarities end, though. The Paper features an all-new but equally funny cast, headed up by Domhnall Gleeson. He plays the new editor-in-chief of The Toledo Truth Teller, a local community paper that has zero funds for real reporters. You don’t need to be into journalism to appreciate the modern struggles of influencers and clickbait, plus the performances will have you rooting for the underdogs in each episode. The best part? Season 2 is already confirmed.

The Day of the Jackal

If assassins, international thrillers and cat-and-mouse chases are your thing, The Day of the Jackal is a must-watch. The series is a remake of the 1973 Oscar-nominated film and stars Eddie Redmayne as the murderer in question. His pricey targets are put in jeopardy when a smart British intelligence officer (played by Lashana Lynch) enters his orbit, and a wild European adventure ensues. The series has already been renewed for a second season and is expected to debut hopefully within the next year, making now a fine time to invest in the first 11-episode season.

The Copenhagen Test

We love us some Simu Liu and he doesn’t disappoint in this action-packed sci-fi fantasy about a top secret group of officials who watch the top officials (think the CIA and the FBI). Simu plays a man named Alexander who works in the downstairs part of that company, coined The Orphanage. But when he learns that top brass believe he is leaking info, his enters a fight for his life. The Copenhagen Test is the kind of show that melds conspiracy theories, action and unseen twists into each tense episode, which means you’ll definitely want to set some time aside because it’s very, very bingeable.

All Her Fault

It’s hard to follow up a show like Succession, but Sarah Snook chose wisely with this reality-bending series that may have you questioning what you think you know. All Her Fault revolves around a mother who drops her son off for a playdate, but when she returns to pick him up he’s not there. Worse, the people in the house insist they’ve never seen him before. From there, a story of motherhood, society, policing and stereotypes evolves, calling into question the way the world views and treats mothers at large. Michael Pena, Jake Lacey and Dakota Fanning also star.

The Z-Suite

If you need more Lauren Graham in your life then be sure to check out her latest comedy, a satire about generational clashes and the modern workplace. The Z-Suite series revolves around an award-winning C-suite at an ad agency that is cancelled. In its place comes a Gen Z social media team with employees who have a new way of doing things. It’s a funny look at what happens when two workplaces collide, and examines how quickly our own jobs are changing

thanks to things like social media and AI. Nico Santos, Dani Kind and Madison Shamoun also star.

Harlan Coben’s Final Twist

Harlan Coben is known for spinning some of the greatest mysteries and thrillers in book format, and several of his novels have gone on to become gripping TV series. Yet we’re hooked on the true crime format, Harlan Coben’s Final Twist, in which the English author explores several real-life murder cases. Follow along as he unravels the shocking twists and turns that these cases take, and unburies secrets that lead to unexpected endings. From cyberbullying to a woman who disappears while hosting a wedding, these are the kinds of stories you simply cannot make up.
