If You Like These Shows, You’ll Love The Copenhagen Test

Good news, Simu Liu fans. The Canadian actor’s latest series, The Copenhagen Test, is officially streaming on STACKTV, which means you can start planning your next weekend binge. If you haven’t heard, The Copenhagen Test hails from creator Thomas Brandon (Legacies) and revolves around a top-secret spy agency named The Orphanage. The agency is a watchdog of sorts, one that is responsible for collecting information about all of American’s top-secret agencies, like the FBI and the CIA.

Alexander Hale, played by Simu, is a first-generation Chinese-American analyst who has been working downstairs at The Orphanage for quite some time now. But when the agency realizes there’s a mole and Hale figures out that they suspect him, he pretends to be unaware in order to hunt down those responsible. To do so, he agrees to a dangerous new mission and a fake girlfriend, uncovering a larger conspiracy in the process.

It’s a high-concept, high-stakes series with plenty of twists and turns, not to mention terrific acting turns by supporting cast members like Melissa Barrera, Mark O’Brien and Saul Rubinek. There are flashbacks and a slow-burn storyline that really hits its stride by episode 3, plus characters within characters to root for and enjoy.

If you’re still unsure whether the show is for you or you’ve binged it and need something else to watch, keep scrolling for some TV show recommendations. Stream them all before or after The Copenhagen Test on STACKTV.

The Day of the Jackal

This Golden-Globe-nominated series (based on the 1973 Oscar-nominated film) stars Eddie Redmayne as The Jackal, an assassin for hire if you can pay the highest fee. His spree is interrupted when a British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) tracks him down, however, and a European game of cat-and-mouse ensues. While it takes place in a different timeline than The Copenhagen Test, The Day of the Jackal is another espionage type thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

All Her Fault

This newer thriller stars Sarah Snook (Succession) as a mother whose child disappears after a play date. Desperate and scared, she searches for her son, only to uncover a wild truth and a larger conspiracy that pulls in her community and makes her question everything around her. Like The Copenhagen Test, there are lots of unexpected plot twists and secrets to uncover in All Her Fault.

Harlan Coben’s Final Twist

STACKTV

There have been several Harlan Coben series to debut lately, all of them dramatized versions of one the author’s twisty books. Harlan Coben’s Final Twist is even more compelling, however, as it combines Coben’s signature storytelling with real-life cases. Those who like complicated plots and stories will get into the twists and turns featured in every single episode, especially since you can’t always predict the way things eventually work out.

If you loved the mystery elements in The Copenhagen Test, this atmospheric crime drama is a natural next step. Karl Alberg relocates to the coastal town of Gibsons to recover from years of big-city police work and hopefully find some peace. Instead, he discovers that even an idyllic paradise can hide dark secrets. With murders unfolding around him, Alberg must tap into the detective skills that once made him exceptional. His relationship with Cassandra, the town librarian who becomes his muse and romantic interest, adds emotional depth to the series. Murder in a Small Town is based on the Edgar Award-winning Karl Alberg novels by L.R. Wright.

PONIES

If the espionage and undercover tension is what caught your attention, PONIES deserves a spot on your watchlist. Set in Moscow in 1977, the story follows two PONIES or “persons of no interest.” These embassy secretaries are overlooked by the system until their husbands die under suspicious circumstances. This tragedy pushes them into the world of CIA operations. Bea, played by Emilia Clarke, is an overeducated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her partner Twila is a fearless and abrasive small-town girl. Together, they take on a vast Cold War conspiracy while solving the mystery that changed their lives forever.

For something a little lighter, Private Eyes offers a fun mix of mystery and charm. Former pro athlete Matt Shade teams up with tough private investigator Angie Everett, creating a dynamic duo full of wit and chemistry. Their week-to-week cases offer a refreshing break from the intensity of spy thrillers while still delivering plenty of investigative intrigue.
